"Using The Force: How Milk Components Are Helping Intestinal Bacteria Defeat the First Order"

Mark Underwood received his training at Brigham Young University (BA), Southwestern Medical School (MD), UCLA (residency in pediatrics), and UC Davis (fellowship in neonatology and Master’s degree in clinical research).

He practiced general pediatrics in Montana and New Zealand for 13 years and then became a faculty member at the UC Davis School of Medicine in the division of neonatology in 2006. He became the chief of the division of neonatology in 2014.

He enjoys international medicine and has practiced or taught in 18 countries. His research focuses on the interactions between milk, the intestinal microbiota, and the developing immune system of the infant.
